2010 CONFERENCE THEME: SERVING THE FORGOTTEN

On the outskirts of our communities exist an extraordinary number of individuals and families who are forgotten. Overlooked by the majority and left behind in the dash for progress, these silent persons piece together lives from the leftovers, as they succumb the physical and mental repercussions of neglect. Who are the forgotten? Why should we recognize them? What can be accomplished on their behalf? Participants in the 2010 Exploring Medical Missions Conference will discover who are these invisible persons and how to Serve The Forgotten.

  OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this conference participants will be able to:

  • Conduct an accurate community health survey
  • Promote health through community development
  • Effectively diagnose and treat the leading diseases of poverty
  • Approach health interventions in a culturally competent fashion
  • Successfully educate healthcare professionals and students in caring for low-resource communities

  FIVE YEARS & RUNNING...

The annual INMED Exploring Medical Missions Conference has since 2006 grown to become one of the premier opportunities for healthcare students and professionals connect with communities in greatest need. Previous Conference themes have examined the Fight Against HIV, Launching Into Medical Missions, and Fighting The Diseases of Poverty. At every conference, participants both learn the skills necessary to cross cultures and serve low-resource persons. 393 enthusiastic individuals attended the 2009 Conference, included 86 physicians, 89 nurses, 2 dentists, 5 pharmacists, 8 therapists, 3 physicians assistants, 11 nurse practitioners, 110 students, and 77 others. 30 states were represented, and some 8 nationalities. 28 sending organizations were represented, giving attendees personal connect with service opportunities.
