International HIV Medicine Course Welcome

Providing HIV intervention in low-resource communities requires a unique skill set.
Many developing nations and low-income communities are faced by both a large number of citizens with HIV infection and very limited resources with which to respond. HIV management in such settings demands a unique skill set. The purpose of this course is to prepare healthcare professionals to lead effective low-resource HIV interventions.

  COMPETENCY OBJECTIVES  

At the completion of this course, participants will be able in the context of a low-resource community to:
  • Accurately assess HIV disease status
  • Communicate effective HIV prevention
  • Lead effective prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission
  • Manage appropriate treatment of HIV infection
  • Manage common HIV-associated opportunistic infections
  • Care for children affected by HIV
Core Competencies:

IOM: Work in interdisciplinary teams; Employ Evidence-based practices

ACGME/ABMS: Medical knowledge; Interpersonal and communications skills; Professionalism; and Systems-based practice


  SCOPE OF INFORMATION  

This course is introductory in nature. Learners are encouraged to then further their knowledge and skills through study of excellent low-resource HIV care resources, including those published by the WHO and CDC, and through taking part in supervised HIV interventions, like the INMED International HIV Medicine Certificate program.

Low-resource HIV care is a field in rapid development. Therefore, for current medication indications, protocols, dosages and adverse effects, please refer to the most up-to-date resources available.

  COST
