Course Information
The INMED Professional Qualification Course in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare is designed to provide learners a review of most commonly needed clinical skills in settings with a shortage of specialists. Included are hands-on sessions covering wound care and suturing, extremity trauma and immobilization, complicated obstetrics, newborn resuscitation, tropical fever evaluation, and community health survey techniques.
At the completion of the INMED Professional Qualification Course in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare, learners will be able to demonstrate:
- Wound evaluation and urgent management including repair
- Extremity trauma evaluation and management including immobilization
- Tropical fever evaluation and management
- Management of common obstetrics complications
- Newborn resuscitation techniques
- Community health survey techniques
The Professional Qualification Course in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare has two sections: online and in-person. The online section provides critical information about traumatic injuries, maternal health, newborn care, and community health assessment.

Following is the general schedule of the in-person section; a hands-on skills learning experience that includes role-playing, peer-to-peer training and practice throughout.
8:00 Wound evaluation and urgent management including repair
9:30 Extremity trauma evaluation and management including immobilization
11:00 Tropical fever evaluation and management
12:00 Lunch/Poverty Meal (provided)
1:00 Management of common obstetrics complications
2:30 Newborn resuscitation
4:00 Community health survey
5:00 Conclusion

The Course is open to healthcare professionals and healthcare profession students in the fields that routinely diagnose and treat disease, including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, midwives, resident physicians, and learners of these health professions.
Computing Requirements
The following are the minimum computing requirements for participating in this course. Learners must have ready access to and be functionally proficient with:
- A personal computer with an up-to-date operating system and ample memory for downloads
- A web browser, preferably the most up-to-date version of Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari
- Applications capable of opening Microsoft Word documents and of viewing PDFs
- An Internet connection, preferably high speed
- Capability of viewing YouTube and Vimeo videos
This one-day course will equip participants with essential and commonly needed hands-on skills necessary to provide health care in low-resource settings.

Case studies for developing clinical judgment
Evaluation Methods & Requirements For Successful Completion
This course is graded pass/fail. Successful pass requires:
- All Short Self-Paced Post-Tests ≥80%
- Satisfactory demonstration of all required skills
- Complete course evaluation and credit claims forms at the course conclusion.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) for the INMED Professional Qualification Course in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare is attained through satisfactory completion of the course requirements. Note: CME is not applicable to students or resident physicians.
Cost
There is no additional charge for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.

Participants who successfully complete the course of study and who pass the final examinations will receive the INMED Professional Qualification in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare. Academic credit earned is 1 credit hour. Verification of the educational experience will be provided to any learner’s affiliated school or residency program. Those who do not pass the final examinations will receive a certificate of attendance.
The tuition for the INMED Professional Qualification Course in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare is $295 per participant. There is no additional charge for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.
Participants will receive access to the INMED Maternal-Newborn Health Short Self-Paced Course, the INMED Trauma and Public Health Short Self-Paced Course, the full-day in-person hands-on skill development experience, and upon satisfactory participation and skill demonstration, the INMED Professional Qualification in Hands-On Skills for Low-Resource Healthcare. Please note that accommodations and meals are not included.
